Our concert will begin with pieces by French composers who were interrelated by influence. Fauré taught Ravel and Satie and influenced both Ravel and Debussy. And Ravel refused to take Gershwin as a student on the grounds that lessons "would probably cause him to write bad Ravel and lose his great gift of melody and spontaneity.”
A delightful miniature Piano Trio by Beethoven follows.
Concluding the program is Amy Beach’s tour de force, her exciting and virtuosic Violin Sonata in A minor
