Ian Davidson

Oboist Ian Davidson is Regents’ and University Distinguished Professor at Texas State University. He holds degrees from DePauw University and The University of Texas. In addition to his work at Texas State, Dr. Davidson is Principal Oboe of the Austin Opera Orchestra and English Horn and Associate Principal Oboe of the Austin Symphony Orchestra.  

An active performer, has performed solo and chamber music concerts in  such prestigious venues as Rachmaninoff Hall in Moscow, Chueng Theater  in Hong Hong, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, Belozersky Palace in St. Petersburg, and the Sydney Opera  House, as part of 51 international concert tours. 

His recording credits include 22 solo albums and numerous films,  including “Spy Kids2”, “Knight of Cups”, “The Vessel”, “To The Wonder”, and recently, for HBO Films, the documentary “Simple as Water” that was short-listed for an Academy Award in the category of Best Documentary. 

Dr. Davidson performs and records exclusively on oboes manufactured by F. Loree of Paris. His compositions, most recently “Scenes at The Ranch” and “Five Works of Jackson Pollock”, are published by in the US by  TrevoMusic, in the UK by Emmerson Wind Music, and in Germany by Accolade.
