more about the artists…

CHAMPS (Chamber Music in the Public Schools) is the educational program of Salon Concerts, Inc., that provides coaching to chamber music ensembles in local-area public middle schools and high schools.   Currently the program is in 13 schools—6 middle schools and 7 high schools—in the Austin, Round Rock, Westlake and Lake Travis School Districts.   Professional musicians go to the schools once a week to coach the ensembles free of charge to the students or schools.   The chamber music ensembles also are provided with the opportunity to perform in various venues and participate in master classes with such people as Peter Bay, Maestro of the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and members of the faculty at UT’s Butler School of Music.  The cost for this CHAMPS coaching is $3000 per year for each school.

Although Salon Concerts, Inc. and CHAMPS does receive government grants and donations from local corporations and generous individuals to help pay for this service, this fundraiser is a major source of support money for the CHAMPS program.
