Bette was taught to love music by her mother even though the family could not afford an instrument or lessons. Instead, Bette used her voice to express her musicality. She has served for a long time on the boards of directors for many non-profit organizations including Austin Children’s Shelter, Heritage Society, Austin Women’s Symphony League and Salon Concerts. Bette has been a photographer for 25 years and owned and operated several businesses. She even did television commercials for 10 years. In her prime, Bette won the Mrs. Dallas and Mrs. Texas Pageants and competed for Mrs. America. Bette raised four children, and has 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
