Chamber Music is instrumental music played by a small ensemble, with one player to a part. Its ideal setting is in a small chamber with an intimate feel, where the audience can viscerally, palpably share the experience of the music being brought to life by the musicians in the room with them.
What we do
Salon Concerts presents 4 concerts, each performed on a Sunday evening and the following Monday night. The artists are the best classical musicians in Austin and distinguished, internationally acclaimed guest performers. Each pair of concerts takes place in a beautiful private home and includes a post-concert buffet of hors d’oeuvres and wines catered by the fabulous Pascal. Audience members have the opportunity to mingle with the artists, the hosts, and fellow music lovers.
Each pair of concerts is followed on Tuesday evening by a Rush Hour version of the concert with the same repertoire and musicians, but a bit shorter. For Concerts 3 and 4 this event will take place at the Blackerby Violin Shop, 1111 West Anderson Lane.
You can read about Salon Concerts and the first concert of our 2010/2011 Season in “Chamber music finds its modern home” by Luke Quinton of the Austin American Stateman, November 17, 2010.
History
Founded in 1990 by violinist Robert Rudié, Salon Concerts’ mission is to encourage more people to enjoy chamber music. From a four-concert subscription series in unique Austin homes, to free rush-hour concerts, to a nationally recognized program of chamber music education in public schools—our activities reach and educate audiences of all ages about this intimate art form.
